There is only one you, and if you want that you to be the best one possible, you really do need to take care of yourself. That means putting yourself first, even if that feels wrong and selfish (it’s not if it means you are taking care of yourself). The problem is, most of us are so used to looking after other people that it can be difficult to know just how to treat ourselves. Many times we don’t, and that can lead to problems such as burnout and exhaustion. So here are some ways that you can treat yourself and become the best person you can be.
Have Breakfast In Bed
There is no better way to start the day than to have a relaxing, lazy breakfast in bed. A lot of the time the alarm goes off, and we rush to scramble ourselves and get ready for work or the school run. Either that or we hit the snooze button one too many times and then regret it. When you do have time, making yourself a lovely breakfast and then taking it back to bed can help you to start the day in just the right way. Make sure it’s something you love and indulge!
Listen To An Audiobook
If your day is spent staring at a screen for hours at a time (whether that’s a laptop, tablet, smartphone or TV) give your eyes and your brain a break and plug into an audiobook instead. Really treat yourself by choosing an old childhood favorite and wallow in nostalgia for an hour or so – or however long you have available – escaping from grownup life for a while. You’ll feel relaxed and content, and your eyes will thank you for the chance to rest for a while.
Buy Yourself Something
Go shopping and buy something just for you, just because you want it. When was the last time you did that? For most of us who take care of children or other loved ones, when we go shopping, we’re buying items for them, and we only get something new when it’s totally necessary. Take some time and go to the stores that you love; pick out something that’s all for you. It could be diamonds from Jorge Juan Joyeros, the latest novel by your favorite author, a beautiful dress, something lovely for the home, or anything else take catches your eye. Don’t worry about why you’re buying it; it’s a treat for you-you deserve it.
Decorate With Flowers
Flowers are a wonderful way to treat yourself; they look stunning when you arrange them around your home, and they boost your happiness levels (as well as the happiness levels of everyone in the house). They actually have been scientifically proven to have a positive impact on mental health, so it makes perfect sense to put them in your home. Plus they’ll make your place smell delightful.
Take A Day Off
Just take a day off. Book time off work, get someone else to look after the kids, ditch anything you were meant to be doing and do your own thing. Sleep in, watch the same movie all day, read, go for a walk, eat junk food, take a long, hot, bubble bath, or do absolutely nothing at all – just enjoy it.
