I just returned from a quick weekend trip to Saratoga Springs, in upstate New York. A beautiful, quiet town known for the horse racing and healing waters, people come from all over the world in the summer months. From NYC, it is a little over 3 hour drive or a 4 hour train ride.
I would totally recommend Saratoga Springs for a relaxing wellness weekend filled with good food, exercise, fresh air and healing spa treatments. Coming back to the city, you will be as good as new!
We stayed at The Gideon Putnam, which is an eclectic old property located on the national park. I loved the old-world ambiance and history. My spacious room had a sun terrace overlooking the grounds, and on Sunday we indulged in a massive brunch, popular with the locals as well as the hotel guests.
The first night I arrived we went to an amazing restaurant called 15 Church. Everything was spectacular, from their extensive cocktail menu, creative appetizers and perfect dinners. The staff couldn’t be more friendly.
The Champagne Mojito- El Dorado 3yr cask aged white rum, fresh lime juice, fresh mint, simple syrup, champagne $11
The Crispy Oysters with Napa cabbage ginger slaw, foie gras aioli $15
The perfect dessert!
The next day we had a morning yoga class and then headed off for our guided water tour in the Saratoga Springs National Spa Park. The walk was easy and scenic, and we sampled water from different springs along the way.
We also had a cooking class with the Executive Chef of The Gideon Putnam.
Last but not least, a bike ride around the park, stopping on the spa grounds, the farmer’s market and for a quick drink out of one of the fountains.
I will be publishing articles on Saratoga Springs soon, so look for the link back here. And if you ever need a relaxing, quick weekend from New York City, you know where to go.
