New York City is certainly not a destination that needs any kind of introduction. To some people, it is home, while to other individuals, it is just a place to work. But it can also be a place where you could get lost in things to do for days, and yet there will still be new things to do. Countless cultural spots, restaurants, historic landmarks, and so much more await you in this city, so it is no wonder that the fun doesn’t stop once the sun goes down. Check out this list of romantic date ideas in the city that never sleeps.

A Night at the Theatre

No city does live performances quite like New York City, so if you are looking to take in the theater, this is the place to do it. One great place for musicals is the Richard Rodgers Theatre. It has been a home to many famous musicals, such as Guys and Dolls, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Movin’ Out, and Damn Yankees, to name a few. Renamed in 1990 to honor Richard Rodgers, it was originally called the 46th Street Theatre when it originally opened in 1924.

A Walk Through Flowers

What’s more romantic than flowers? Take a trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in Crown Heights and discover a world of plants you may not have guessed even existed amidst all that concrete. If you visit in the spring, the cherry blossoms could be in full bloom, which is certainly a sight to see. The beautiful displays of color and fragrance are perfect for a romantic evening anytime of year. One of the most popular spots in the botanical gardens is the Japanese Hill and Pond Garden, which features a large collection of Japanese garden plants, a wooden bridge, a tori, and even a Shinto shrine. The combination of different trees and flowers, along with the traditional arrangements of rocks, are a must-see for anyone who appreciates Japanese culture and gardens.

Get to The Met

If you and your date are lovers of art, then there is no better place for a date than the Metropolitan Museum of Art. With so many exhibits, it is almost impossible to see the whole place in one day, never mind in one night, but there is certainly something for everybody in this museum. You’ll find displays for modern art, as well as centuries’ worth of paintings, sculptures, and more, including carvings, suits of armor, musical instruments, and just about anything else you can imagine. Just make sure to get a map so you don’t get lost. You wouldn’t want to be late for your dinner plans.

Riverview Dining

A romantic dinner is made even more special if you have a fantastic view. At the River Café, located just beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, you can watch the lights from the Manhattan skyline glimmer on the water while you wine and dine. Known as one of the best restaurants in the city, they serve a modern American menu made with the freshest ingredients. Between the food, the view, the floral arrangements, and the nightly live piano music, this is definitely the place to take your date for dinner after a walk through the flowers and a musical at the theatre.

Set Sail

If the idea of river-view dining excites you, you could also try out a wine-tasting sailing trip. Manhattan by Sail offers private and group charters, as well as fun experiences like wine tasting, beer tasting, and even burlesque sailing events. Set sail on a Sunday afternoon with one of their wine experts and spend 2 hours out on the water sipping some of the finest wines while taking in the breathtaking views of New York City from the water. If beer, wine, or burlesque don’t interest you or your date, they also have a jazz sailing trip available so you can sail around at night while experiencing a full jazz concert right on the water.

Whether you’re going out for a romantic night with your significant other or you’re just trying to make a good impression on a blind date, New York City has a little bit of everything for everyone’s tastes and interests. These are just a few ideas that work great for a romantic evening or night, but get creative and look around for other things that interest you and your date. There is no shortage of amazing restaurants, performances, and landmarks to check out. If you really explore the city, you’ll never want your night to end.
