There comes a time in everyone’s life when they wish to be a better version of themselves. While looking for ways to iron out the imperfections is always a great idea, you need to remember that no one is perfect and sometimes it’s the imperfections that make us ‘us.’

Self-development and self-discovery are great journeys to take. However, you need to understand the reasons behind your desire for self-improvement. Do you feel like you have to conform, or is it because your lifestyle is no longer satisfying? To give yourself an overhaul is a difficult and tiresome task, but for many, it is a beneficial experience.

Pinpoint the Areas of Improvement

You may wish to improve your whole self, but to do so in one huge chunk can become unmanageable. Rather than bite off more than you can chew, you need to decide which areas you wish to improve more than others. Then, once you know the more pressing issues, you can come up with a plan on how to tackle your new goals. It could be simple fixes: if you want to be more financially independent and money-savvy, taking seminars in accounting and learning how to monitor your spending through an Excel sheet could be more than enough. However, if it’s a big change you wish to make, a step-by-step guide may be vital in keeping you on track.

Have a Plan of Action

The more detailed your plan, the better. If you leave certain parts unattended, you may be more likely to break your new resolutions and find yourself slipping into old habits. However, certain areas of improvements require different plans:

  • Physical improvement. If you want to lose weight or tone up, you need to have a routine in place. More importantly, you need to stick to the said routine. Put down the days you’re going to head to the gym and exercise; record the calories you’re consuming and the calories you’re burning. If you need help heading to the gym, then enlist the help of a friend. Having a gym buddy makes you more inclined to stick to your plan because they’ll hold you accountable for your actions.
  • Emotional improvement. Keeping your emotional wellbeing in check means monitoring your body and mind’s harmony and balance. If you need help building your confidence, then put time aside each day to focus on yourself. ‘Me’ time is a great means of focusing on all your accomplishments, while also contemplating all the ways you could improve. While you need to remain positive, you also need to understand where you didn’t go well. For instance, did you lose control at work, or do you struggle with depression and anxiety? If so, then you may need to speak to a doctor or see a psychologist.
  • Personal improvement. Do you want to run your own business, buy a house or move to another country? Perhaps you wish to become a published author or live a more relaxed life? For many, it can be hard to remember your personal wishes, especially if you have a family. Spend an hour or so a day figuring our personal projects you can undergo, and how to progress them. For instance, if you want to be an entrepreneur, then start outlining a successful business proposal.

Do What You Love

It can be all too easy to self-criticize ourselves, and sometimes we become too wrapped up in being a better person. While self-improvement can be a wonderful notion, at the end of the day, as long as you’re doing something that you love, you should live a life you’re content with. If you enjoy vaping, then treat yourself to new equipment at Redjuice, or if you’ve always wanted to write a novel, sit down and start planning out the characters and plot. Whatever it is you wish to achieve, put the time and energy into accomplishing those goals.

Remain Optimistic

Undergoing serious change can become a tedious task. You need to remain optimistic throughout the transition. Otherwise, you may lose hope which will, at the end of the day, only damage your growth. Take the time to list off all the smaller achievements you’ve made on the road to reaching your final destination. Don’t be afraid to commend yourself for the little things along the way.
