Looking good on your wedding day is a must and there are a number of things you can do that will increase the chances of that. Here are a few:
1. Look like yourself but make improvements.
I always tell brides that it is important to stay true to themselves. So if you are the type who doesn’t wear makeup, then it’s best to keep things simple. Do not let anyone, even a professional makeup artist, tell you that you need to wear makeup on your special day if it just doesn’t feel right. This also means that if you are a huge makeup fan… the eyeliner, the false eyelashes, the lips etc. Avoid the temptation to go au natural unless it’s something you have tried before. Feel free to use all the makeup you want if that’s your cup of tea.
2. Build a makeup plan.
If you are planning to hire a professional makeup artist, then conduct a trial run 6 to 8 weeks prior to the wedding to enable you to see what you are going to get and make sure to take pictures. Francesca Young a make-up artist in London, UK says, “It doesn’t matter if you have known the makeup artist for a long time of if she’s someone very famous.” During the trial, it’s time to experiment with new looks and see how you like them. It’s not a good idea to try something completely new or different on the wedding day itself.
3. Do-it-yourself.
If you are thinking about doing it yourself, then you can take advantage of free bridal makeovers which a lot of cosmetic companies offer. This way, you can choose from a variety of colors, products and ideas that suit you best. Many makeup artists also conduct makeup lessons, so you could enroll in a class to learn how to do things by yourself. Make it a point to take pictures. Here are some tips.
4. Experiment with new looks.
If you want a look that you haven’t tried before, then experiment 2 to 3 months before the wedding. You don’t want to be experimenting during the wedding day itself and you also wouldn’t want to do it earlier unless you’re absolutely sure that your skin tone and hair color wouldn’t change.
5. Match-making.
There is no need to require all the bridesmaids’ to wear the same makeup, which makes them lose their individuality. Your bridesmaids will love the idea of being able to have their own unique look while still maintaining a unified theme. When deciding on their makeup look, make sure to take their age, skin tone and hair color into consideration. It’s a good idea to set a makeup run through with all your bridesmaids. You must ensure that everyone looks the way you want them and that they are happy with their appearance as well. Again, make sure to take pictures.
6. Be careful when following friends.
You might be tempted to keep up with the latest trends, but this is something you should be really careful of. What’s in today might make you cringe after just a short period of time. As a bride, you don’t want to look at your wedding photos, reminiscing and then thinking, “What was I thinking?!”
7. Advanced cosmetic procedures.
There are many brides who plan to get facials, manicures, teeth whitening, false tans, and even botox just one week before the wedding, hoping that these treatments will make them look better on their big day. However, these cosmetic procedures might actually make the skin erupt and the teeth become too sensitive. The solution is to plan ahead: Practice a good skin care regimen, see a dermatologist and a dentist several weeks before the wedding, and have regular manicures. You can have a test tan a few weeks prior to the wedding and if you like the results, then do it again about 3 days before your special day. And to ensure that your nails are at their best, go for a long-lasting manicure at least a couple of days before the wedding.
