Part of the fun of my job is meeting inspiring women from all over the world. I met Kim at The National Publicity Summit in New York, and chatted about life as an entrepreneur, inspiration and leadership. Kim recently wrote a book about how she healed her 20-year battle with psoriasis through nutrition & self-love.
What do you do? I am the Founder and CEO of The Love Group, a speaking agency whose goal is to inspire and educate the next generation of female leaders. I am also a Holistic Health Coach, Author, and Speaker.
What inspired you to start your company? I was inspired to create The Love Group because I wanted to have a positive impact on young women, giving them the tools they need to love themselves and pursue their dreams. Girls all across this country must be reminded of their worth, and shown that loving yourself, first and foremost, should be the primary objective to living a healthy, happy life. I couldn’t be more excited to do this work because I didn’t have these tools growing up and I can’t begin to imagine how much easier my life would have been if I did.
What is your mission? In our school years, we are at such a fragile age, often riddled with insecurity, self-doubt and personal development. These young ladies are questioning themselves and their place in the world. We know, because we’ve ALL been there. This is when they need a confidence boost, giving them the tools to flourish. We all wish we had something like this offered at our school when we were young, and that’s what we hear from so many people when we share what we are doing. The Love Group is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that teaches these girls how to nourish themselves in ways they’ve never experienced. We cover topics that are crucial for every young woman to ensure her happiness – health, food, self-acceptance, beauty, mindfulness, body image, dealing with bullies, wardrobe, exercise, budgeting, gratitude, positivity, attracting healthy relationships, and most importantly, self-love. The goal is to leave these girls inspired, motivated, and prepared to face life’s obstacles.
What does a day in the life look like for you? As we grow The Love Group, a day in my life is spent mostly on the phone building relationships with schools, sponsors, speakers, and my incredible team. If I’m not sharing information, collaborating, and/or pitching The Love Group, I’m spending time writing, with my supportive husband, adorable nieces and nephews, exercising, and researching healthy desserts to bake when I have time!
What is the inspiration behind your work? The inspiration comes from a place of love and simply wanting these young girls to grow up with these life-changing tools. Like the suffragettes of the early 1900s, once again, we are finding ourselves in a time when strong female voices are in high demand. With a whole barrage of very women-centric issues at the forefront of our national dialogue – from political attacks on women’s reproductive health, countless allegations of sexual misconduct, the “Times Up” and “Me Too” movements, the rapid increase in teenage obesity, The Women’s March, and staggering suicide rates for teenage girls due in large part to the endless bullying and harassment on social media – there is a growing need to energize and embolden today’s young women. I can only imagine how it might change things for them and make their lives easier. I want them to tap into the reserve of self-love that each of them have inside to learn how to find it, recognize it, and use it to reach their greatest potential.
What inspires you? I am personally inspired by others who do good in the world. It motivates me. If I can help half as many people as Kris Carr or Ellen DeGeneres or Oprah – oh my God, Oprah! – I would feel extremely fulfilled. Helping others truly feeds my soul, and allows me to do what I do.
What is the best advice you have ever been given? Each of us has a story. We’re all the lead character in our own little movies. And like every movie, our stories tend to have a theme, or some sort of driving force. The character usually has to overcome something to reach their happy ending. The best advice I’ve ever been given was to take a deep look at the story I’ve created for myself – the one I’ve been carrying around since childhood – and to let it go so it frees up space for new storylines and possibilities.
