I love mineral makeup.
Why, you ask? Well, because it offers the most natural finish of any kind of makeup out there. This is perfect for when I want to sport a natural makeup look for a casual day out with the girls.
My favorite natural makeup look is one that is quite simple and just about anyone can do their own version. It leaves me look bright eyed, but almost makeup free. It’s perfect for summer days when you’re afraid you might sweat the makeup off as well.
So how do you get a flawless, natural makeup look? Here are the steps to make it happen!
#1 Start Fresh – Make sure you are starting with a clean face. If your face is ridden with day old makeup or half washed off makeup, your final product will look mucky and not fresh at all. Remove all of your makeup with a makeup remover and then thoroughly wash your face with a deep cleaning cleanser.
#2 Prep Your Face – After you have cleansed your face and removed all traces of yesterday’s makeup, prep it well. This means applying a toner and moisturizer. A toner works to balance your skin’s pH while simultaneously making your pores appear smaller – something very convenient for a fresh-faced makeup style. A moisturizer will give you that soft, doughy complexion that is extremely desirable.
#3 Prime and Conceal – The best part about using mineral makeup is that this step can be very minimal because the mineral makeup does a wonderful job of covering and making your skin seem to glow at the same time. However, if you do have red spots that you want concealed, now is the time to do your work! You will also need to prime your eyelids for the minimal eyeshadow that will be applied later on.
#4 Foundation – This is in the makeup sense of the word, and the literal. In order to create a great natural look, you first need a great foundation to work off of. This mean applying the foundation so that it covers your whole face AND NECK – many people forget this part. Blend it all together so it looks flawless. Mineral makeup does a wonderful job of blending into your skin and making it look completely natural.
#5 Apply Your Eye Makeup – This is going to be the most important step in making this a natural makeup look versus any other type of makeup. The color you use to make this look the most natural depends on your eye color:
Brown eyes – peach or bronze
Blue eyes – light brown
Hazel eyes – warm golds and peach shades
Green eyes – gold and browns
Now that you’d found a color that works best with your eye color, start applying. Always start very light with your eyeshadow – especially when you’re going for this natural look. Begin at the outer corner of your eye and work upward and inward, making sure to blend it in well. Once the color is even on both sides, use a highlighting color and lightly brush it underneath your eyebrow. Blend the highlighted color and your blush together so there is no line. Luckily, mineral makeup all blends together nicely so this won’t be very difficult.
#6 Finishing Touches – The last things you’ll need to do are applying your blush and lightly brushing some mascara along your lashes. And my lightly, I mean to use it very sparingly. When you’re going for a natural look, you just want to touch your lashes with it and give them some depth, not completely drown them in mascara. Lastly, take your favorite blush color (to find your best shade, match the color to the color of your lips without any lipstick on them) and dust a fair amount in an upward angle along your cheekbone until it reaches your temple.
*Bonus: You may also take a highlighting powder and dust a tad bit on the apples of your cheeks for a natural glow.*
Now you have successfully learned how to create a truly natural makeup look using mineral makeup. This style will have you looking naturally flawless all day long.
