It is not unusual for any brand to draw on different eras in an ad campaign, but when Rimowa Luggage turns to the 1920’s for a star-studded ad campaign there is an inner depth to the strategy. Yes, it is all about advertising, but there is something far deeper and more symbolic as well. High end luggage retailers such as Charlesfordlondon.com understand the symbolism and are proud to carry a brand that is likewise proud of its heritage.

Entitled “A Journey through Time”

Many people only know Rimowa as a classic luggage that is ultra-lightweight, stylish and sturdy. However, did you know that they were the first company to fashion a durable lightweight luggage after what was, at the time, considered to be ‘space age’ material? This ad campaign begins in the 1920’s where the inspiration for this cutting-edge luggage technology began. Also, it is great to remember that the roaring twenties is still known as one of the most glamourous eras in modern history.

Inspired by Hugo Junkers and the Famous Junkers Aircraft

Much of the technology we are privy to today actually began as mere ‘concepts’ back in the 20’s and 30’s. It was in the year 1919 that Hugo Junkers designed what was then termed “the mother of commercial aircraft” and this was the Junkers F13. It was the first aircraft for passengers designed completely from metal. The material was aluminium and to make this even more memorable, this aluminium alloy had only been ‘discovered’ thirteen years prior in 1906 by Alfred Wilm.

Enter the 1950’s

At a time when air travel was just coming into its own as a major mode of transport, the son (Richard Morszeck) of Rimowa’s founder, Paul Morszeck, was inspired by this ‘space age’ material. His grooved luggage design cast from aluminium became all the rage as the lightest weight luggage ever to be manufactured. This achievement set the company above all others as the pioneer of lightweight yet extremely durable luggage.

A Look at the Star-studded Rimowa Ad Campaign.

It takes a certain ‘look’ to complete an ad campaign reminiscent of the roaring 20’s with the iconic flapper appeal. Rimowa Luggage found the perfect person to be the fabulous flapper face the world associates with Rimowa in none other than sexy Alessandra Ambrosio. She is joined by Johannes Huebl (fiancé of Olivia Polermo) in the ad campaign and the ‘couple’ wows the audience. Believe it or not, Alessandra actually has owned the Brazilian Rimowa collection and has been a long-time fan of the luggage prior to being signed to the campaign.

Fans of Rimowa will enjoy looking at the stills and commercials with lovely Alessandra, Johannes and perhaps a future celeb is in the works? This is set to be the ad campaign for 2015 and 2016 so many are waiting with baited breath to see what other stars make their appearance along the way. It is always nice to see ad campaigns with a real theme, something based on a historical perspective and now critics have the floor. Will Rimowa Luggage win the award for best ad campaign of 2015? Many critics believe it is poised to do just that.
