If you are struggling to escape the pressures and stresses of daily life, and put some time aside for yourself, then it might be time for you to start planning your next getaway. It is easy to become swept up in the mainstream concept of what a vacation should be. For most, going on a break means choosing a hot climate, a hotel with a swimming pool within close walking distance to a sandy beach, and only venturing occasionally into the nearest town to get some experience of local culture. While this can be a nice way to spend your holiday, sometimes the best experiences come from thinking a little outside the box. If you are looking to break away from mainstream holidays and plan a unique getaway, here are a few things you should consider.
Destination
There are hundreds of countries that exist around the world and thousands of cities on top of that, so why is it that there are only 20 or so popular destinations for Americans to visit on their vacations? Every town and city around the world has its own unique history, and something which makes it worth visiting, so if you want to plan a holiday that is a little different, try to avoid sticking to just the usual capital cities. For example, instead of visiting Paris, why not visit some of the other beautiful cities in France, such as Toulouse: also known as the ‘Pink City.’ Toulouse is a large city in the southwest of France and within traveling distance of both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. You can explore the local Cathedral and churches, tour the museums, and even visit their beautiful Japanese Garden.
Accommodation
The accommodation which you choose to stay in can have an overall effect on your vacation experience. While staying in a hotel can be the height of luxury, hotels can also be very cut-off from local culture, as they are purpose-built for tourists. If you are looking to immerse yourself more in the natural atmosphere of your chosen destination, you might find it better to go down the route of a VacationRenter. Staying in a house or villa which is more central will allow you to enjoy a better cultural experience, and is also a great way to cultivate more of a ‘home away from home’ ambiance during your stay. You may also find that staying in rented accommodation allows you to save some money, and allows you more flexibility, especially if you are traveling with family members.
Recreation
Finally, the experience you have on your getaway is not just influenced by where you go, but also by what you do when you get there. If you are looking to have a relaxing holiday, then, of course, there is nothing wrong with lying under the sun, enjoying your favorite book. However, your getaway is a chance for you to gain new and unique experiences which you simply can’t get at home. For example, you might find you benefit more from partaking in guided meditation, which will help you to clear your mind and turn your focus in on yourself, rather than from simply relaxing alone on a beach.
Whether you decide to go wild or keep it simple with your getaway experience, you should try and think outside of the box and create a holiday which is as unique as you!
