If you never got around to learning to drive as soon as you turned 17, it can be easy to end up getting used to life without your own wheels – especially if you live in a city where you have no need of a car to get to work or to the places you go to most. However, driving can still be a really beneficial skill to have, and well worth putting the time and effort in to gain even if you don’t plan to actually own your own car when you have your license. Resources like Top Tests online make it easier than ever to study for your theory test, and driving lessons can be fun, so why not make it a goal of yours to learn to drive this year?

Driving Opens Up Career Options

If you haven’t settled on a career yet, simply being able to drive actually opens up a whole lot of new options. For some jobs, driving is actually all you need to do, for example working as a taxi or limo driver, or a courier. For others, driving isn’t the job itself, and you may not think it would be an important prerequisite, but it actually is vital. A lot of sales or consultancy jobs that require you to visit customer sites are very difficult to get and do if you have to rely on public transport. Even some jobs that don’t appear to require driving at all see a clean driver’s license as an asset in potential employees, and so having one could give you the edge over another similarly qualified candidate who can’t drive.

More Flexibility On Holiday!

Another great reason to learn to drive is how much more you can get out of trips and holidays. Just because the city you live in is easy to get around without a car, doesn’t mean he places on your travel wish list are too, so being able to hire a car when you travel is a great option. Being able to visit the places you are interested in on holiday at your own leisure rather than relying on organised tours makes things far more relaxed and fun. Of course, when you can drive you also gain the option of road trips as a holiday. This offers an amazing way to see more of the UK and Europe.

A Great Emergency Skill

A final reason to learn to drive is that like first aid, you never know when a moment will arise when that skill could really help you or someone you know out. Someone needs to be rushed to hospital and you don’t want to wait for an ambulance? No problem if you can drive. Your friend is stranded somewhere late at night? You can pick them up. It may mean you get roped in to more airport runs and helping people move house than you’d like, but at least you’ll be owed lots of favours!

Driving really is a great skill to have so if you have been putting off learning, why not start now?
